Nonprofits make a difference, add value and provide services to the community that impact and transform lives. Despite numerous challenges, we continue to survive, thrive and even prosper. Our work matters! This year’s conference will provide a forum for and provoke dialogue among and between members as we focus on Demonstrating Nonprofit Success.
HSC'S MEMBER LUNCHEON MEETING "Media, Messaging and Your Nonprofit" Journalists from broadcast, print and social media speak to the changing nature--and, needs--of media. And, how nonprofits can best get their point across!
March 14th,Wed., Noon - 2pm Hyattsville City Hall 4310 Gallatin Street, Hyattsville, MD 20781
As funding cuts to many services and programs loom large during local, state, and national elections, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations can and should continue their lobbying and public advocacy work. Nonprofit employees retain their basic First Amendment rights, after all. However, it is important to avoid activities that make your organization appear partisan, especially as IRS enforcement and congressional oversight are intensifying. Join us for a thorough review of the rules you must be aware of if you plan to advocate and lobby.
Topics will include the IRS "preferred" formats for candidate-related activities; when and how you can safely engage in voter registration and get-out-the-vote efforts; candidates lobbying; when "permissible" advocacy becomes "impermissible;" and common mistakes. Monday, February 27, 2012, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Maryland Nonprofits Baltimore Office Fee: $80 (discounted rate for members $40)
