Our committees and staff are committed to taking action and working to achieve impactful results to benefit the human services community. Achieving our mission is a priority for HSC, as demonstrated by recent accomplishments and the ongoing projects listed below.
BE ACTIVE!
HSC constantly seeks opportunities for members to NETWORK AND COLLABORATE, partner or merge by providing:
Info & Ideas, a monthly membership luncheon for networking and interacting with community leaders, public officials both elected and appointed, and for sharing ideas and collaborating on projects
Information sources, such as INSIGHT, a monthly e-publication of practical tips and news, and other announcements and publications to promote our members and inform them of issues important to nonprofits and human services organizations
BE STRONG!
HSC BUILDS CAPACITY of Prince George’s nonprofits to make communities vibrant through our:
Nonprofit Incubator Program
(NIP) which is funded by the DHCD CDBG Program and other public and
private partners. NIP, our primary capacity building program, also
provides an array of core, practical training that is linked to peer
mentoring and executive coaching, as well as specific technical
assistance.
Grant U Program
(short for Grant University) will provide “grant-ready” organizations
with resources to submit first-rate competitive grant proposals. The
program, which ran successfully as a pilot earlier this year, is set to
launch late 2011.
Training and Technical Assistance to support nonprofit growth and educate community leaders
Forums and Conferences that provide more in-depth exploration of issues that are vital to building sustainable, excellent nonprofits
BE HEARD!
HSC ADVOCATES on behalf of the nonprofit sector by:

Working with the Center for Nonprofit Advancement and the Nonprofit Roundtable
(our regionally-focused partners) to develop public policy advocacy
campaigns to bring greater resources to Prince George's nonprofits
Organizing members to advocate on four core public policy initiatives to:

Secure adequate funding in the County budget for nonprofits
Assure that there
is a legally binding Community Benefit Agreement (CBA) with each
development plan that passes through M-NCPPC's Planning Division
Develop policies
and practices that enable nonprofits to be effective partners in the
economic development of our communities and citizens
